Dearest Victorian friends,
I hope you are well! I'm ashamed to admit that I failed to post last week. I've been struggling to finish the poem I'd like to send out because I’ve been feeling burned out and, dare I say, afflicted with a case of writer's block, not to mention that school is back in session. As a result, I’ve decided to take a break from my beloved newsletter, but rest assured, next Monday, you'll still receive Musical Monday's issue No. 4 in your inbox, along with the three additional pieces that are a part of this project in Notes on the following Mondays. I'm confident that in a few weeks, I'll be back entirely!
In the meantime, you can read up on recent letters or re-read older ones. The following are links to my essays, articles, and poems. As always, remember to share if you enjoy what you read! Thank you for reading Victorian Voices. I’ll see you next Monday for Musical Mondays issue No. 4!
Love Letter to August (poem)

Musical Mondays No. 3
August 7th, 2023 Greetings everyone! Welcome to Musical Mondays, where I, Somiah Nettles Victorian Voices , introduce you to classical composers from around the world on the first Monday of each month, with the objective of strengthening your taste and enthusiasm for classical music. Because we'll be focusing on one composer for a full month, every Monday I'll be sharing…
Make sure to check Notes every Monday so you don’t miss out on any additional pieces on this month's Musical Monday spotlight, Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges.
DISCOVERING NEW WAYS TO WRITE NO. 1
The Conversation Starter: Last Thursday, via Notes, I asked two questions: What has recently inspired you to write? And do you notice that your writing alters slightly or significantly when confronted with something emotionally staggering? I also mentioned that, since I've been in a funk, I've been incorporating sea imagery into my poetry. Using the sea …
Haikus in Bed
1. The day Summer bloomed (5) a mosquito sucked and sucked (7) the pop off my arm. (5) 2. Here I am, trying (5) to write my way through this life (7) with two worn-out hands. (5) 3. How does one write a novel? (7) How does one triumph? (5) One must remain a student. (7)
I've been feeling the same, Somiah! Looking forward to reading your next post.
I hope that that writers block is cleared!
